The Dojo

Dojo means "A Cherished Place of Learning" and should be respected. The dojo provides a safe place for physical and mental training in the way of Kyokushinkai under the guidance of trained masters

Etiquete:

  • Always say "OSU" (OOSS) twice in succession while bowing, upon entering the dojo and before leaving.
  • Always be clean and presentable in the dojo.
  • No shoes are to be worn in the training area of the dojo.
  • Never remove anything that is not yours from the dojo.
  • Show appropriate respect to the Sensei and others ranked higher than yourself.

Dojo Motto:
(The Kyokusin dojo kun (motto) was written by Mas Oyama with the help of Eiji Yoshikawa)

  • We will train our hearts and bodies, for a firm unshaken spirit.
  • We will pursue the true meaning of the Martial Way, so that in time our senses may be alert.
  • With true vigor, we will seek to cultivate a spirit of self-denial.
  • We will observe the rules of courtesy, respect our superiors, and refrain from violence.
  • We will follow our spiritual path, and never forget the true virtue of humility.
  • We will look upwards to wisdom and strength, not seeking other desires.
  • All our lives, through the discipline of Karate, we will seek to fulfill the true meaning of the Kyokushin Way.
Your Karate Equipment (DOGI)

Your dogi is a personal piece of your training equipment, without it you could not train. It is to be treated with respect. It should always be clean and presentable upon entry to the Dojo.Your DOGI consists of 3 parts:

          1, Uwagi - Jacket
          2, Zubon - Trousers
          3, Obi - Belt.

All your equipment should be clearly marked with your name. For all Karate the Karate gi is WHITE with exception of your Obi. The Uwagi is always worn outside the Zubon with the left side lapel over the right.

The Belt (obi)
The Obi loops the waist twice and is tied in a reef knot at the front so as the ends natrually fold downwards.
