Shihan Peter Lowl
Shihan Peter Lowl started training in Wellington in 1982 with Ron Discome, a great karateka who represented New Zealand in two World Tournaments and held national Karate Titles. Their Wellington Dojo was the Marist Kyokushin Karate Club.
Shihan Lowl is now living in New Plymouth and running the New Plymouth IFK Kyokyshin Karate Dojo, following the teachings of Hanshi Steve Arneil 9th Dan. Shihan Lowl developed his taste for tournaments after winning his first tournament in Hastings, While still a white belt he won his first fight which only lasted 3 seconds but cemented his lifelong love of Karate.

Shihan Lowl has trained with some of the world's best instructors in New Zealand, Australia, Germany and Japan. Shihan Lowl has represented New Zealand many times from 1983 till 1999. He has also taken part in Kyokushin Commonwealth games held in Australia. Sensei has fought many good fighters like K1 Kick Boxing Champion Sam Greco and ten times Australian Kyokushin champion Tony Bowden. Shihan was always placed in the top 3 in New Zealand.

As well as training our Dojo, Shihan Lowl has been a Full Contact Karate Coach leading some of New Zealand's prize fighters to victory in international competitions. Some of these fighters include Bryce Cook (winner of the NZ Australia cup), Ross Wilson (New Zealand Karate and Kick Boxing Champion) and Peter Sampson (New Zealand Karate, Kick Boxing, and Ring Karate Champion). Sampson later went on to win the World Cup Trophy for Shihan John Taylor in the USA.

Many of the members of our New Plymouth IFK Kyokushin Karate Dojo compete in national and international events. One of these members was Sempai Peter Dredge (deceased) who, while in Australia representing New Zealand as a Blue Belt 7th Kyu competed against Mike Tyson (Australia), who was at that time a 3rd Dan black belt.

Since retiring from active competition Shihan Lowl has turned his energies towards developing and helping the community to be safer on the streets and in their homes by teaching practical Karate. how to prevent a conflict, being prepared for any situation and how to fight back with devastating effectiveness. Shihan Lowl promotes self confidence, self discipline, coordination, self defense and most importantly being an ACHIEVER.

I love my martial arts and think if I had taken it on full time that I may have lost my love for it. I keep my passion for Karate and making lifelong friends like Shihan Solly Purcell, Shihan John Taylor, Shihan George Kolovos, Shihan Hoosain Narker and Shihan Tony Bowden and invite YOU to come and experience the brotherhood of Kyokushin Karate.

Shihan Peter Lowl.
